Modern Foreign Languages

St Ives 15.jpg
Foreign language learning allows children to deepen their understanding of the world and provides them with the opportunity to learn about other cultures and communicate with others.

The MFL curriculum at St Ives allows children to gain the necessary skills to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to speakers, both in speech and in writing. Through Early Years and KS1, we prepare our children for the transition to KS2 by embracing different languages, especially when taking the register. Our KS2 curriculum develops the children’s fundamental language learning skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing in French.  This prepares the children for further foreign language teaching at Key Stage 3.
